Forest Research Institute

Forest Research Institute (Instytut Badawczy Lesnictwa) was established in 1930. Being a reputable organization it required a notable and functional Web site. The portal comprises the history, structure and current activities.

Description:

The Forest Research Institute carries out scientific research for forests and forestry as well as for afforested areas and wooded lands. Their research, study works and expertise support forest sciences, forest management and governmental authorities. Their Library collects forestry journals for 80 year and its resources are the biggest in their part of Europe.

The Challenge:

The www.ibles.pl and www.lesne-prace-badawcze.pl Web sites had to be migrated to use newer versions of Zope and Plone (at least to Plone 3.0). Additionally two new types of content with forms for entering them and three new portlets had to be developed. They were to automatically present slideshows of pictures for a particular portlet and provide captions from a specific place within the site. Another important requirement was automated content acquiring for a particular content type from any location within the site.

The Solution:

The solution was to migrate the Web site to Plone 3.0. The new types of content with forms for entering them and the new portlets were created. Modifications in the Web site allowed for collecting pictures and presenting them as slideshows. According to the requirements of the client, automated content acquiring for a particular content type was developed.

The Technology:

Plone, Plone 3.0
