Swordfish CMS - a dedicated Python solution for Edition 1

The Customer

Edition 1 is a Dutch company selling internet applications. The company has completed many projects, mainly for customers from the Netherlands. It specializes in Plone, and therefore required the best programmers working in this language. After receiving an order, Edition 1 receives technical assistance from STX Next Python Experts. It also provides training in using applications created with Plone.

The Need

As every fast developing company, it needed the latest technologies that facilitate and improve the process of application development. Edition 1 turned to us, because there was a need for creating a CMS for projects carried by the company. It was important to base the outcome on open source, and provide the functionality of managing many pages from only one application. As every user browses through various portals, it was important to integrate the CMS with external services such as Google Maps, LDAP, Single Sign On.

The Solution

The solution was to develop the Swordfish CMS under the Python CMS Solutions service. Swordfish is functional and user friendly. Edition 1 prepared a new look, and also put life in to the project. In order to facilitate work, we have developed a Plone-based implementation and we have written custom modules that perform the required tasks.

The Results

The results can be easily viewed on the page at http://www.swordfish.nl, which was developed as the project was performed. The first version was prepared in 2006, and it was based on Plone 2.5. Today, the latest version is based on Plone 4, and in the meantime, there were migrations between other versions.
